Just when I thought the Beach Blast 5K couldn't get any better, it did. I especially loved the beautiful Beach Blast tote bags with the race logo printed on them and the bright blue race t-shirts. The course support & water stations were outstanding. It's so nice to have the race volunteers & local folks cheering you along the way. The police department did a wonderful job of directing traffic, as we navigated the beautiful streets of Albemarle. There was an abundance & variety of great refreshments & plenty of water awaiting the runners when we finished. It was also exciting receiving the weekly Vac and Dash e-mails to see what prizes you were giving away to the pre-registered runners. I particularly enjoyed receiving all the free goodies I got for being the first person to register. I've got enough race gear to last me for a few years. (Oh by the way, my registration for next year's race is in the mail - just kidding!) Where will you get all this & more for only $15 (pre-registered) - no where but the 2009 5th Annual Beach Blast 5K! The Beach Blast 5k had great volunteers who were extremely friendly and helpful. The course had beautiful scenery. We thought the race was run extremely well. The t-shirts were awesome and the awards were truly one of a kind. Beach Blast 5K Feedback
I began running 23 years ago to lose weight and get in shape. Everything back then was so fundamental and straightforward, just get out and run! And in the early years I had never heard of ultra marathons. I was intimidated by 5k and 10k distances. First of all, I had to figure out how far a 5k was. A lot has changed about running nowadays. We have high-tech garments, shoes that cost well over a $100, super get-up-and-go drinks and thick gels that nourish us during the run. One thing's for sure, the running part is still the same. Just get out and run!
Today I had the satisfaction of getting back to the basics of running and racing. Several of my MTC friends participated in the Beach Blast
5k in Albemarle, NC. This race reminds me of the old days when you gathered for a local 5k conducted by the local running club. The Uwharrie Running Club does a very impressive job with this event. They have a beautiful and demanding course around downtown Albemarle. They have plenty of support from the community and town folk and, really good cookies and snacks after the race.
The Beach Blast 5k in Albemarle is one of those races that I like run to remind me where I came from. I am very grateful for all that the sport of running has given me. I don't every want to forget that. We all have to start somewhere.
I highly recommend running the Beach Blast 5k. It's a great way to start. I'm sure I will be back there again next year to remind myself of where I came from. Mark Long - Mangum Track Club

Congratulations on another successful Beach Blast 5K run. I heard nothing but great comments on the race today. The twins that came in 1st & 2nd overall are from Charlotte and they told me they had a race five minutes from their house this morning, but chose to drive the hour to Albemarle to compete in your race. They too prefer small town races compared to the big city races.
Albemarle is a great example of what you won't get in some big city races- friendly, happy people. Please pass along my thanks to everyone involved in helping to make this a spectacular event for runners. Everyone, both on and off the course, were fantastic. The t-shirts, goody bags, food, refreshments & door prizes were the best. I especially liked all the pre-race drawings and looked forward to each update to see if I had won anything.
