5th Annual Beach Blast 5K

2009

Hat's off to the Uwharrie Running Club for putting together another first class race.

Warm weather didn't stop 330 runners from pounding the pavement in downtown Albemarle for the 5th Annual Beach Blast 5K.  This year's race was the Road Runners Club of America's North Carolina 5K State Championship Race.

As soon as the timing company forwards the results, I'll get them on-line.

We are working on a video of the race that should be on-line Monday.

Race Comments From Mike Walsh, Road Runners Club of America State Director

Yesterday Lena Hollman and I attended the 2009 5K State Championship.  It was the Beach Blast 5K in Albemarle, a first time Championship race, hosted by Uwharrie Running Club and the Vac & Dash store, where you can purchase both vacuum cleaners and running gear.  It reminded me of the best of small town races, with a nice (but challenging course), great volunteers, and a lot of fun socializing.  As Lena mentioned last time, they did have the fabulous cookies, and of course Cheerwine at the finish given where we were in the state!  Both Lena and I got to race, and experienced first hand what a great job they did.
